I have the same problem :(

I really don't know. I never really looked at the debug mode before. But yes, it felt that way all the time...

Thanks for the debug mode cheat :) Without ambient occlusion, I get a steady 30 FPS, with AO, it drops to 15 FPS.

Fair enough :)

I am really looking forward to seeing the finished game :)

You wrote:

Oh so like the arrow is pointing towards another direction when you shoot?

That's exactly what I mean. In previous versions this was much worse (some arrows started with the tip up to the sky etc). It is better now but still conceivable.

"Anyway I'll be adding new food items soon so this isnt an issue."

Fair enough.

"Can you make a video of how the horse get in the way? Because I tried playing with it and didnt find it as an issue."

I'll have to install OBS first. Maybe I can do it tonight, if not, please be patient, I have a hard week ahead. Maybe I won't find the time this week.

"How massive are be talking about? Like 50% drop?"

It goes from playable to jerky (<30FPS). Didn't you have an FPS count in the debug mode? It's disabled now, right?

"Can you remind me of what your graphics card is?"

True. But I think the menus should be untouched by the world-lighting.

By the way, here's another screenshot of the graphic error in the inventory:

This is flickering red and blue and off.

Thanks for the OBS hint, I'll check that out some time.

When I load a world, I always start with about 1/10 health. That makes surviving the first minutes a random thing. Couldn't you save the last health-level on quitting the game and reload that?

Hm... that's a good question. One could argue both ways. I would say: yes, you should see it, but that's just because I am a huge Skyrim-fan and you see the horse in FPP there, too ;)

13. (hit sound gfx error): I just encounteted this again. So: not fixed :(

"What do you mean by tumbling?"

It is much better now that in the last version but still: if you stand still, hold the fire button down and then move the mouse slowly from left to right, you'll notice that the arrows somethime start with their tip a little to the left and then adjust their orientation during the flight. I guess that's the best way to describe it.

"I should probably just delete this thread and have individual threads"

Yeah, it get's kinda confusing here. Maybe you can lock this htread so that no-one can add new answers. That way you would keep the history.

Fixed in 0.321 :)

In v.0.321, the inventory graphics seem to be missing completely, they are rendered all black:

Also, I still get graphics errors when hovering over items, but I cannot capture a video because my FlashBack Express ceased to work. Do you know a good (free) video capturing software?

I like the new music. I like the new version in general. But: skeletons are WAY too hard now. A single skeleton kills my lvl63 archer in 1 of 2 times, and I stand no chance against several skeletons.

What about the berries? It seems they lost much of their effect. I need to eat 10 berries to get just a fraction of my health back...

Also, the horse still tends to get into the way too often. It is immune alright, but I keep missing the enemies and shoot the horse instead. Quite annoying.

And I think I am experiencing a massive drop in framerate with Ambient Occlusion now compared to the last version. I turned it off for now...

When you zoom in all the way, your mount becomes invisible. Even when you are not actually sitting on it :-D

So, here's the feedback to the list of bugs as I experience them in v0.32.1 (I will create new threads in the future, this here is just insane):

3. (Loading time): FIXED

4. (captured guys): FIXED

7.  (missing music): FIXED

8. (tumbling arrows): The whole arrow physics is MUCH better (and faster!) now. But the arrows still "tumble" about when you shoot and walk.

10. (invisible guy): FIXED

11. (underwater bloom error): FIXED

12. (camera gets underneath terrain when walking around in map mode): I still managed to get the camera beneath the terrain. Additionally, switching from fully zoomed in map mode back to normal mode results in an invisible character, you have to zoom out and in 2 or three times to get the character visible again

13. (hit sound gfx error): seems FIXED (Update: no, is still there)

14. (inventory gfx error): still occurs here

15. (secondary arrow in FPP): FIXED.

The problem with the speech bubbles is also fixed!

Good job!

Thanks for sending me the fixed character.

He means things like: the amount of RAM you have installed, which graphics card, which CPU, operating system etc.

For example, my specs are:

Windows 7 64-bit
8GB RAM
AMD Radeon HD7700 Graphics Card
Intel i5-4430 CPU

Some of these info you find in Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\System and Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\System\Device Manager

If you want to create a video, you could use https://www.flashbackrecorder.com/express/ which is free but need quite some trial-and-error to create good-looking videos.

Sorry for the delay. You got mail. As far as I can remember, I never saved and loaded, just played right through, but I see a "Save1.sav" so probably I saved. Or the game saved on itself? I don't know :)

(1 edit)

You got mail :)

Yeah, I think the progress system could get some polishing. First of all, I get the feeling that it becomes easier to level up over time. In other games, it takes longer and longer because you get less and less XP for low-tier enemies. But maybe there are not enough different-tier enemies in the game as of yet, so that could be a problem.

Then, the skill tree is really to be worked on. There could be sooo many skills for an archer, but all you get is 3 different kinds of arrows, the bleeding and a knife (which I never used because why should I? It's much safer to kill the enemies from a distance). I think the skill tree should be something that sort of defines the character you develop, so that playing the same game twice with another archer could still be a different feeling. Have you ever seen "Path of Exile"? Now that is a skill tree :-)

In general, I don't know which RPGs you have played so far, but I'd recommend you take a look at Diablo 1&2, Skyrim, Path of Exile and Divine Divinity, to name but a few, to get some inspiration on skill-development.

But no, I am still not one-hit-killing anything. You'll see for yourself when you get the character to not-crash anymore :)

I'd like to stress again that I think Project Hedra is on a very good track. Last night I realized that you are in deep discussions on Reddit and Discord and whatnot, that there are people creating music for the game etc. I know that Hedra is a one-man-project and you have my deepest respect for the task you started. Don't get yourself killed trying to satisfy all our wishes ;)

Oh by the way: I think the glider is a bit of a disappointment. I was so looking forward to flying around but even jumping off the highest mountain I could find it was a 5 second ride until I hit the ground again. Take a look at the game "Grow Up" to see some cool glider-action, maybe the glider gets an upgrade later on or something...

The log.txt is in the game directory.

(1 edit)

Oh no! I can't load my character anymore. I left the game open in pause mode for about one or two hours and when I came back, everything was white. I tried to create a new world, but the game crashed. And now it always crashes when I either LOAD WORLD or CREATE NEW WORLD and then select my character :(

Do you see any chance to revive my level 62 archer?

When you are in map mode and just walk around, some map-symbols move with you:

First the graveyard symbol, then the swords symbol.

I think the "Feedback & Bugs" thread is way too long already, so I took the liberty of creating a new thread for this bug. Hope that's okay.

I just encountered a Gorilla without a tree:

after killing it, I realized the tree is actually there but invisible:

My bad. I finally managed to find a TM and now got both a glider and a horse mount. Yeehaw :)

But: being an archer, the horse always gets in the way :( When I sit on it, every arrow hits the horse instead of anything else and when I walk, it always manages to get between me and the enemies. Maybe the horse could wait at a greater distance and just come up then you press a (specially assigned) mount-button? Oh and of course we'd need the clip-clop of hooves...

That and the merchants were nowhere to be found :( Hm... come to think of it: maybe I didn't look hard enough. I'll investigate a bit further...

(2 edits)

It's me again... today, I just saw several merchants on the big map, but every time I reached them, they had magically disappeared. I start to believe this is some cruel joke :-/

One tiny detail: when you jump, the "walking" sound starts again as soon as you reach the apex of the jump, which feels a bit weird, especially when you are jumping down a slope.

Some random ideas about the gameplay: As Mangozapp already mentioned, Hedra is still missing the incentive to explore the world. Don't get me wrong, I like the look and feel of the landscape, but after 30 minutes you have probably seen all there is (so far). You fought a tree boss, you cleared a graveyard, you went into a town. And then what? I generally think there should be more variety to the locations. Think bigger! Large patches of forest with a special subset of inhabitants, huge mountain-ranges with steep walls and crevices where you have to fight through ice and snow against yetis, icebears and frostwraiths, desert zones with cactuses and oases and camels and scorpions and Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves. You know, a world that changes around you while you explore. Think of it like zones with different flora and fauna. Maybe you find a boat on a shore and sail to an island or even another continent.  Unfortunately I still don't have a glider yet, so maybe I am missing something there.

Also, some caves or dungeons like HeroGamergg proposed could be fun, although they might be a bit harder to code. With a boss at the end, some randomly generated loot or even quests that send you somewhere else. Oh yes and more mobs. I really enjoy the bandit camps, although the AI could still use some polishing.

Have you ever played Realm of the Mad God? Check it out for an hour or two to maybe get some inspiration.

A little side idea: when I found a "Uncommon Smithy Hammer", I was hoping I could give it to the next smith who'd glady buy it and/or give me some cool mithril arrows or what not :)

In general, I think Hedra should get more possibilities to interact with the world. It's kinda frustrating for the player to talk to villagers that a) always say the same and b) tell you, you look like the adventurer-type and should try some questing just to find out that the quests have been disabled X-D

EDIT (some hours later): I just hit "New world" about a dozen times and must say: WOW, there already is quite some variety in the landscapes. Maybe try to "blend" several of these biomes so one can walk from one landscape style to another.

Here are the videos:

13. http://themadguys.de/phedra/Hit-sound-gfx-error-1.mp4

I believe I see an "e" pop up several times towards the end :-?

and
http://themadguys.de/phedra/Inventory-gfx-error.mp4

In the inventory/selling dialog, I sometimes see exactly this error in every inventory and merchant field, even if I don't move the mouse.

And here is the "secondary arrow" bug:

http://themadguys.de/phedra/Secondary-Arrow.mp4

which only occurs in FPP, I think.

v0.31 takes very long to load on my computer, too. Be patient and let the white window stay for some minutes. The game will start eventually. Or download v0.30, which starts much much faster.

ok, that makes sense. thanx

In that case I don't understand why v0.30 does only show one of my 2 chars:

v0.31 knows both characters... but never mind. I guess this is a no-priority thing as it only occurs with an older version.

(2 edits)

13 & 14: can do, but not today. This will have to wait a day or two.

But maybe you can have a look at the seriously long loading time in v0.31, this makes testing the game a patience game...

8. I managed to delete the file by mistake :( but as you already fixed it, I won't have to capture that again ;)

Regarding the keys: I am left-handed, so I control the keys with my right hand. Jumping with space is always a challenge because I have to do that using my pinky. But never mind, I can handle that.

Hahaha you guyz rule! Looks like T&T on Amiga :) but please: make the jump-curve smoother with a little sine. Thanks.

Actually, I liked that style :) can't you make that bug a feature? :-D
